MGVP 2023 Matching Gift: Community-Led School Meal Project in Cambodia

Since its launch in 2009, the MGVP Matching Gift program has contributed to solving global social issues by donating a total of approximately 41 million yen to 11 organizations by 2022.

In 2023, we will support the "Community-Led School Feeding Project" in Cambodia implemented by the Plan International Japan.

In rural Cambodia, social infrastructure that was devastated by the ruling regime in the 1970s is still in the process of recovery, and disparities with urban areas that have experienced economic growth continue to widen. Children from economically disadvantaged households often skip breakfast, which prevents them from concentrating in class and leads to early dropout before completing primary education. This is one of the key factors hindering improvements in primary education completion rates.

To address this issue, the project will focus on ensuring a stable supply of school meals, supporting the provision of cooking and water supply facilities, and introducing school gardens in rural areas of Cambodia. These efforts aim to enhance children's learning efficiency and improve primary education completion rates. Additionally, the project seeks to contribute to the creation of "better livelihoods" in the future through the knowledge gained from school education.

By supporting this program, we aim to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 2: Zero Hunger and Goal 4: Quality Education for All.
