Japan Studies Fund and Mitsui Scholarship Fund at National University of Singapore

The Mitsui Scholarship Fund was established at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mitsui's Singapore Branch. Every year three or four students in the Japanese language program of the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Science are awarded short-term scholarships that allow them to spend 6-8 weeks during the summer studying Japanese culture in Japan.
The NUS Japan Studies Fund was created in 2007 with the aim of organizing a Japanese studies association in southeast Asia. Centered on NUS and working with other leading universities and institutions in southeast Asia, the fund supports a range of activities including regular conferences in the region, exchange of students between the region's universities, study visits to Japan for Singapore students, and publication of Japan-related research in southeast Asia.
