Recycling of Plastic Waste Discharged at 7-Eleven Stores in Expo 2025

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui"; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kenichi Hori) and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation ("Mitsubishi Chemical"; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO, Manabu Chikumoto) will jointly work on recycling of plastic waste discharged at the convenience stores which SEVEN-ELEVEN JAPAN CO.,LTD. will open at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Roles in the project

Mitsui will arrange a collection scheme of the discharged plastic waste with delivery, sorting, etc.
Mitsubishi Chemical will recyle the discharged plastic waste with their plastics-to-oil conversion technology at Ibaraki plant.

The duration of Expo 2025 (from 13th April, 2025 to 13th October, 2025)

Discharged plastic food containers, Used plastic cups of "SEVEN CAFE Smoothie", etc.

At Expo 2025, which is expected to attract many visitors from all over the world, Mitsui and Mitsubishi Chemical will promote a circular economy by carrying out this recycling scheme.
