Overview of each of the three schools participating in the online program

Kanagawa Prefectural Tama Senior High School

Kanagawa Prefectural Tama Senior High School
Participants:
280 second-year high school students from 7 classes
Program Summary:
In order to add depth to the exploratory activities conducted through the year at the school, a program was implemented whereby students were asked to consider the element of "empathy" necessary for social acceptance.
Students selected one video (theme) of interest from the videos presented by our lecturers. Using the SASUGAKU Compass and Future Timeline, the participants came up with ideas for solving social issues related to their chosen theme and shared them with the class.
Students then selected ideas that they found likeable, and worked in pairs to consider the elements of the idea that would generate empathy. After group presentations, participants exchanged opinions with Mitsui employees.

Dalton Academy Middle School

Dalton Academy Middle School
Participants:
102 junior high school first graders from four classes
Program Summary:
In order to make the school sustainable and exciting, the winner was to receive a budget and their idea would take shape in the form of a school "Reengineering" project. We provided input on the SASUGAKU methodology during the idea review stage, participated in the preliminary judging of the idea contest, and judged the final contest. We also visited the school to give input through lectures. Using the SASUGAKU Compass and Future Timeline, the participants discussed ideas for the school Reengineering project. Students viewed videos of our lecturers' presentations. We participated in the final review online and awarded the SASUGAKU Academy Award to one of the groups.

Satoe Gakuen Elementary School

Program Summary:
Students watched videos of the planning stage of improvement ideas for a biotope installed at the school, engaged in a Q&A session with our employees, and participated in an idea contest.
Participants used the SASUGAKU Compass and Future Timeline to come up with ideas for improving the biotope. They then selected one video of interest from our instructor's presentations, asked questions about the video, and received answers from the instructor.
They then brushed up their ideas based on the responses from the instructors. A pre-contest was held at the school to select a representative idea. After an online presentation, Mitsui reviewed the idea and shared ideas and opinions.
