On March 25, 2026, the Mitsui Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia held an Alumni Meeting.
The Mitsui Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia was established in 1992 with the aim of promoting friendship between Japan and Indonesia and developing human resources who will serve as a bridge between the two countries. To date, the program has supported 56 scholarship recipients, providing assistance for a total of 5.5 years in Japan, consisting of 1.5 years at a Japanese language school followed by four years at university.
While the program usually holds a celebration to mark university graduation and the completion of the scholarship program, the recruitment of new scholarship recipients was suspended in FY2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and there were no graduating students in the current fiscal year. Accordingly, the event was held as an Alumni Meeting, bringing together alumni and current scholarship recipients to foster intergenerational exchange.
The event was attended by a total of 33 participants, including alumni (OG/OB), among them first-batch scholarship recipients, representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Japan, university professors serving as members of the Steering Committee, officers from PT. Mitsui Indonesia, representatives of the Mitsui Bussan Trade Promotion Foundation, which supports the academic and daily lives of the scholarship recipients in Japan, current scholarship recipients and the first-batch scholarship recipients from the Scholarship Program for India, which started last year.
During the event, all alumni shared updates on their current situations, and survey results regarding post-graduation life were also shared, highlighting their challenge-driven and internationally oriented career development, supported by networks spanning senior and junior recipients.
GM Onda of the Corporate Sustainability Div. also addressed the participants, noting the invitation of first-batch scholarship recipients from the Scholarship Program for India. She emphasized the promotion of cross-border student exchange as a mid-term goal and expressed her hope that the Mitsui Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia, with its long history and accumulated experience, would serve as a role model for deepening connections among scholarship recipients.
We will continue its efforts to foster globally active talent by promoting interaction among scholarship recipients and between recipients and company officers and employees through its country-based scholarship programs, in line with its Materiality, "Empower our people to build brighter futures."
