In 2020, Mitsui Iron Ore Development (MIOD) partnered with Polly Farmer Foundation to provide funding to an Alumni Program along with Rio Tinto and other partners. This program is to provide help and encourage Indigenous & Torres Strait Islanders to continue their studies after high school, or alternatively enter traineeships and increase employment opportunities.
on Thursday 6th July 2023, Nerissa Levett & Ben Burgess attended on behalf of MIOD, a morning tea held at the Polly Farmer Foundation offices, to present bursaries the 11 students who qualified this year. Each bursary awarded is $3000 and goes towards easing the cost associated with further education and some students moving from regional areas.
