Immersion program opens up a world of opportunities

Jul. 15, 2019

Students from the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Western Australia recently returned home to Australia from Japan after completing the New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mitsui Immersion Program.

As part of the intensive two-week assignment, the students learnt about Mitsui's business and investment activities as well as analysing broader Japanese industry and technology development. This included a tour of Japan’s biggest steelmaker, Nippon Steel’s steel works facility in Kimitsu.

Mitsui & Co. (Australia) Executive Vice President and NCP Business Champion, Wendy Holdenson was in Tokyo and attended the students final presentations and awarded them their certificates of completion.

Wendy commended the students’ committed approach to the program and said the insights they learnt will help broaden their future career opportunities.

I congratulate the participants for their diligence, resilience and enthusiasm in immersing themselves in a new cultural environment.”

“This program provides opportunities for the students to deepen their understanding of how business impacts Australia and the world and prepares them for a global career,” Wendy said.

To date, Mitsui have hosted more than 90 Australian university students on the program since its inception in 2015.
