Mitsui Iron Ore Development Renews Robotics Partnership with Scitech

Mar. 7, 2019

Mitsui Iron Ore Development (MIOD) has renewed its partnership with Scitech to continue to deliver vital science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) engagement with Pilbara primary school students.

Ms Deb Banning, Chief Executive Officer, Scitech said Scitech’s mission to increase awareness, interest, capability and participation by all West Australians in STEM would not be possible without partners like MIOD.

“Together, we are able to deliver an engaging and inspiring STEM-skills development program with a reach that diminishes the barrier of geography. Working with Mitsui Iron Ore Development, we target primary school students and teachers in one of the farthest regional communities of Western Australia.”

In 2019, the Mitsui Intensive Robotics Program will engage one select primary school in the Pilbara region, delivering professional development sessions to upskill and engage teachers and three tiers of ongoing workshops for students aged K – Year 2, Years 3 – 4 and Years 5 – 6. This program incorporates literacy, numeracy, and information and communications technology capabilities from the Australian Curriculum.

Since 2014, Scitech and MIOD have delivered this program to a different focus school in the Pilbara each year, while providing continued support in subsequent years.
