Immersion in Mitsui through New Colombo Plan – February 2017

Mar. 28, 2017

In mid-February, Mitsui & Co. hosted 11 students from University of Technology Sydney and University of Western Australia for two weeks at its headquarters. It is our latest contribution in an ongoing commitment to the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan (NCP) program. Since 2015, we have hosted 50 students through NCP.

Students learnt about Mitsui’s business, history, philosophy and relationships with Australia. They also visited external sites such as the Toyota factory, Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metals steel mill, and the Australian Embassy. At the end of their stay, students showcased their knowledge gained during the program. The NCP aims to make Australia’s young people Asia-literate – lifting their knowledge of the Indo-Pacific region.

Armed with experience since 1971 of sending over 350 students on the Mitsui Educational Foundation study tour to Japan, Mitsui & Co. (Australia) was the first non-Australian company to support the NCP.
