Mitsui Wins Special Award at Cyber Index Awards 2023

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui", Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Kenichi Hori) has won the Special Award at the Cyber Index Awards 2023 organised by Nikkei Inc., in cooperation with Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.

The Cyber Index Awards winners are selected by a review committee consisting of leading cybersecurity experts, with the cooperation of the Information Technology Federation of Japan, which conducts a large-scale survey on corporate cybersecurity. By recognizing corporate best practices, the purpose of the awards is to promote awareness and initiatives for cybersecurity throughout industry and society.

Mitsui was recognized as follows:

  • In aiming to innovate corporate management through digital transformation ("DX"), Mitsui is building an internal control system that includes the management of risks anticipated from information leaks and cyberattacks throughout its global and group companies.
  • Mitsui launched its internal DX training program called Mitsui DX Academy in 2021 with the aim of providing standard DX skills, including knowledge of information security measures, for all officers and employees. Mitsui is working to improve its cybersecurity level through a cybersecurity portal that shares several types of relevant information, including on recent trends, examples of cybersecurity incidents, and measures that officers and employees should take.
  • Mitsui practices cybersecurity measures in three stages: 1. "Hygiene" to keep the IT environment in a healthy state; 2, "Protect" to strengthen existing initiatives with a focus on risk detection; and 3. "Recovery" from an attack.
  • Mitsui utilizes DX as it takes on societal challenges, such as improving the value of forests.
  • Mitsui actively discloses information about these efforts in its securities reports and other materials.

Mitsui treats cybersecurity as one of its critical management issues and is working to improve cybersecurity measures in collaboration with its affiliated companies, Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions, Inc., and Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. Mitsui will continue to promote DX and cybersecurity initiatives to enhance social and corporate value globally and across the group.
