Enabling sustainable fishing in Sri Lanka's Jaffna District through business introducing marine farming

Project Description

Introduce and operate marine farming business that meets local needs in Jaffna District in the heart of Sri Lanka's Northern Province, aiming to diversify the local fishing industry and stabilize the income of fishermen. Parallel with this, impart knowledge to fishermen by conducting workshops on conservation of marine resources for them to learn how to have a sustainable fishing industry. Also, conduct sessions and print leaflets to inform Sri Lankans involved with the fishing industry of the results of this work over the past three years.

Conducts activities primarily in interpeople cooperation and fair trade.

  • In East Timor, supporting coffee production, supporting higher incomes for women, and supporting agricultural rotation through animal husbandry and beekeeping.
  • In Sri Lanka, supporting the rebulding of communities in the north, and conducting the organic conversion of small-scale tea farming in the south.
  • In Malaysia, conducting mangrove forest planting business.
  • In Japan, in Kitakami-cho, Ishinomaki City supporting agriculture and the food industry through supplying temporary staff for managing a co-op farm, and helping revive the fishing industry through management support for the producer-direct center.
