Field survey on the disposal of scrap vehicles in the Pacific Island States — The situation of disposing scrap vehicles in Fiji

Activity grant

Project Description

In addition to the rapid modernization of living conditions in the Pacific Island States, there is also an increasingly serious issue of waste disposal. One of the issues is decommissioned, scrap vehicles where the majority of these vehicles are not handled correctly and are simply abandoned in homes or forests - most if these vehicles are made in Japan. Our activities make light of the situation of disposing scrap vehicles in Palau, Micronesia and Fiji with the purpose of promoting recycling and reuse of automobiles and promote environmental education as an automobile producing country. We will implement the following activities:
(1)Acquire information from JICA and consider a survey method
(2)Cooperate with local organizations to conduct surveys on waste disposal and coastal areas as well as interview-based surveys with maintenance plants and related organizations, and prepare a report
(3)Provide information to relevant local and domestic related organizations as well as holding a briefing session
