Coastal Forest Regeneration Project 10-Year Plan (broad-leaved tree division)

Activity grant

Project Description

Starting with trees including black pine trees in FY 2011, the project was commenced with the first nursery (0.7 ha) in Shimomasuda, Natori City, Miyagi Prefecture with seedlings of broad-leaved tree using the organization's subsidies. Over the next ten years, the organization will plant and raise trees including cherry trees, konara oak, chestnut, and zelkova with an annual production target of at least 4,500 trees. In order to gain the long-term participation of not only farmers in the affected areas but also the general public in these activities, we will focus on awareness raising and PR activities in Miyagi Prefecture.
In February, 2014, a development agreement concerning 92.89ha of coast forests in Natori City was signed between the national government; Natori City in Miyagi Prefecture, and the Association for the Coastal Forest Restoration in Natori City.

Main activities
OISCA is an organization that was born to implement concrete activities embodying the basic principles of OISCA International, with a particular focus on environmental conservation activities such as farm village development and greening in the Asia and Pacific region. In particular, we focus on human resources development and conduct training for youth in each country that have the potential to become regional leaders. The youth of each country that have completed OISCA training are engaged in farm village development in their respective countries. We also conduct environmental conservation activities, etc. in Japan through tree plantation and forest development.
