Introduction to Grant Projects

The Green Tohoku Genki Program Executive Committee

The Green Tohoku Genki Program

Activity grant

Project Description

As a result of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and the nuclear reactor incident, many inhabitants of Fukushima Prefecture have been forced to carry out their lives amid uncertain circumstances. Children are no exception to this, and have had to endure many of the same stresses and uncertainties their parents face. It is feared that the pattern of school refusers and disruption of classroom activities currently being seen at schools throughout the prefecture are manifestations of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children, but no appropriate measures have been taken to address this issue. To that end, the Tohoku Genki Program executive committee will bring together outdoor activities instructors and medical and psychological teams to prevent the onset of PTSD symptoms and cultivate members of a sustainable society.
