On March 28, 2024, The Mitsui Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia held a graduation party for the class of 2023 to celebrate the graduation of two recipients from the 21st class.

The Mitsui Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia was established in 1992 to promote friendship between Japan and Indonesia and to develop human resources who will serve as a bridge between the two countries in the future. The program provides financial support for 1.5 years at a Japanese language school and 4 years at a university for a total of 5.5 years. 52 scholarship recipients have visited Japan so far.

On the day of the event, about 40 people, including the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Japan, members of the Steering Committee, Mitsui Bussan Trade Promotion Foundation, and others who have been supporting the Fund on a daily basis, as well as current scholarship recipients, graduates and alumni, gathered for the event, including actual and online participants.

Two of the graduates gave a presentation looking back on their 5.5 years in Japan, including their lives since coming to Japan and their graduation research. The new coronavirus spread when they entered university, and their classes were mainly online. After the new coronavirus calmed down, however, they enjoyed a multifaceted, fruitful student life, not only academically but also participating in overseas fieldwork, presenting posters, and working part-time, and will continue their studies at a graduate laboratory in Japan from April.

The words of the graduates were impressive: "Through the scholarship program, I was able to lead a fulfilling university life," and "Although I could not speak Japanese when I applied for the scholarship, I was able to graduate from a Japanese university and go to graduate school, and this scholarship has led me to where I am today."

EVP Uno and his wife, who sent this graduating class to Japan in 2018 as the President Director & CEO of PT. Mitsui Indonesia, also attended the commemorative meeting and congratulated the graduates, saying, "In light of the era of globalization, please do your best to solve social issues by applying what you learned in Japan in various parts of the world, not just by being active bilaterally.

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. will continue to support the scholarship recipients, taking advantage of its global business operations, with the aim of fostering human resources who are interested in social issues and who can use their own experiences and studies to play an active role on the world stage.
