The Mitsui-Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia held a ceremony on March 31 to celebrate the completion of two students from the 19th intake. This year the ceremony was held in a hybrid format, using the Mitsui & Co.'s Head Office as the real venue and the online connection to the Indonesian participants as the vertical one. 28 people in total attended this, including eight current scholarship students, the representatives of PT. Mitsui Indonesia, five scholarship alumni currently working for the Mitsui & Co., and members of the Managing Committee of the Program.
The two students had to spend two of their four years at the university under the COVID-19 restrictions. However, they both worked hard and showed positive attitudes to overcome these difficulties. The attendees each congratulated them for their efforts. The graduating students expressed their appreciation and future aspirations, one student said that he was able to concentrate on his studies and extracurricular activities and that he wants to become somebody of whom the scholarship program will be proud. The other said that all the staff of the scholarship program were kind and looked after him very well, even though he made some mistakes. He expressed his commitment to work hard with a positive attitude towards a good future.
Established in 1992 by Mitsui & Co., Ltd., the Mitsui-Bussan Scholarship Program for Indonesia reached its 30th year in 2022. The program has enabled a total of 48 students to study in Japan for five and a half years, including taking an 18-month course in the Japanese language, followed by a four-year university course. We plan to implement programs for fostering human resources aiming at solving social issues in Indonesia starting with the FY 2021 scholarship students.
Through this program, Mitsui & Co. will continue to contribute to the promotion of friendship between Japan and Indonesia and the development of both countries, with the aim of producing human resources who can contribute to nation-building in Indonesia in the era of sustainability.
