From 1965 to 1990
Trading & Investment
The current Mitsui & Co. evolved together with changes in the business environment, expanding from export business into investments.

- Opened Jakarta Office
Trading in textiles, furniture, and lumber
- 1986
- Invested in Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing
- 1990
- Established PT. Mitsui Export Indonesia

From 1991 to 2009
Basic Infrastructure
The current Mitsui & Co. responded to growing energy demand in Indonesia, playing a pioneering role in the country’s energy sector by providing project management expertise.
- 1994
- Established one of the largest Independent Power Producers operating in Indonesia (Divested in 2024)
- 1997
- Invested in one of the largest Ammonia Production companies in Indonesia (Ownership transferred to Indonesian government in 2014)
- 2000
- Changed name from PT. Mitsui Export Indonesia to PT. Mitsui Indonesia
- 2009
- Started commercial operation of Tangguh LNG project in West Papua

From 2010 to Present
Quality of Life
The current Mitsui & Co. works as a solutions provider, contributing to Indonesia’s infrastructure development in collaboration with both government and enterprise.
- 2016
- Started operation of New Priok Container Terminal 1 to improve Indonesia’s logistics chain
- 2019
- Contributed to the development of the first MRT project in Indonesia
- 2023
- Reopened PT. Mitsui Indonesia Surabaya Branch Office
(In 1972 opened a Surabaya office, which was closed in 2007 due to business decision. In 2023, anticipating the development of eastern Indonesia, reopened PT. Mitsui Indonesia’s Surabaya Branch Office.)

Trading
The former Mitsui was the first Japanese trading company established in Indonesia, and traded in agricultural products such as sugar, rice, and cotton.
