Business Fields
PT Mitsui Indonesia is actively engaged in the energy sector, offering a range of solutions to address energy demand, tackle environmental challenges, and promote sustainable business practices. Our Energy Division provides carbon management solutions, such as carbon credit trading, renewable energy certificate (REC) trading, and carbon capture and storage (CCS)/carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) project development. Furthermore, we trade certain commodities for energy generation purposes (e.g., biomass, LNG, oils, and coal) and are actively exploring projects to convert waste into cleaner energies, such as biofuels.
Major Activities
Providing Carbon Solutions
- Carbon credit: Trading and developing various carbon credits through offtake agreements with potential partners and are actively exploring opportunities to develop new carbon credit projects that create further environmental impact.
- IREC (International Renewable Energy Certificate): Establishing partnerships with renewable energy power plants to generate IRECs, promote trading of IRECs in the market, and provide electricity decarbonization solutions.
- CCS/CCUS (Carbon Capture and Storage/Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage): Developing CCS/CCUS projects and formulating cross-border CO2 management solutions as part of our efforts to promote decarbonization initiatives in Indonesia and support industrial CO2 emissions reduction through CCS-as-a-Service (CCSaaS) initiatives.
Supplying Energy Commodities
- Biomass: Sourcing biomass materials (e.g., wood pellets and palm kernel shells) for Mitsui customers in Japan, with the aim of contributing to the realization of a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
- LNG: Increasing trading and supply volume by optimizing LNG distribution channels from/to Southeast Asia through swap trading with Mitsui’s LNG portfolio and other trading mechanisms in order to fulfill emerging demand in JKTC (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China) and other countries.
- Oil: Maintaining a steady flow of trade for various oil products (e.g., feedstock, petroleum products, crude oil, and condensate) for various industries.
- Coal: Ensuring our customers receive products of the highest quality and reliability by sourcing from reliable coal suppliers in Indonesia that can cater to our customers.
Developing Biofuels and Next-Generation Fuels
- Bio-feedstock for SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) & HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil): We are sourcing and trading a variety of biofuel feedstock that are all derived from waste products of the palm industry, including Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and Refined UCO, Empty Fruit Branch oil (EFB Oil), Palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD), pitch oil, and Spent Bleaching Earth oil (SBEO).
- SAF and HVO: Produced from waste residues feedstock of the palm industry such as UCO, POME as well as from animal fats, HVO is used as an alternative diesel fuel for vehicles such as buses and trucks. SAF is an alternative jet fuel for use in aircraft. Both are environmental-friendly fuels with lower greenhouse gas emissions. Mitsui aims to build and expand its next generation fuel business portfolio and will continue tackling climate change.
- Waste to energy conversion: We strive to become a solutions provider that can tackle a wide range of waste issues and assist customers in facing environmental challenges in Biogas/BioCNG, Bioethanol and Pyrolysis Oil, with the ultimate aims of promoting sustainable business practices and the circular economy through the provision of clean energy and job creation.
- Hydrogen and ammonia: We are developing local green/blue H2 and ammonia projects, with the aim of enhancing energy efficiency and promoting sustainability.
