Welcome to Mitsui Benelux's website which provides an overview of our growing business in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

It was in the early 1880s when the former Mitsui & Co., Ltd*., one of world’s leading conglomerates, established its first European offices in London and Paris, initially for the purpose of pursuing trade between Europe and Japan. Ever since, the former Mitsui has expanded its business activities in Europe, and presently operates through offices in 13 ccountrie's and regions in Europe. Mitsui & Co. Benelux S.A./N.V. (Mitsui Benelux) is a key to this growing success story, having been set up in 1960 and incorporated under the laws of Belgium since 1971.

The current Mitsui & Co., Ltd. as a whole has been expanding as well as diversifying its forms of global operations. These include worldwide trading of products, logistic services, financing and other key types of investment, which are served by a multinational network of 126 offices in 62 countries (as of Oct 2023). Mitsui Benelux’s longstanding, core strengths include in chemicals, polyester and intermediates, plastics and steel. More recently, it has developed dynamic, wider new business lines including in energy solutions; health, nutrition and wellness; retail; and food and agriculture.

Our Benelux office is located in Brussels. This is a key international business hub for multinational firms; and often the location of global decision making as the official seat of multiple EU institutions including the European Commission, Council of the European Union, and the European Council. Brussels also has the largest international diplomatic community in the world with more than 300 foreign diplomatic missions, and well over 100 international organizations either headquartered or officially represented there.

In this dynamic, international location, Mitsui Benelux is providing a growing range of competencies and expertise to build and grow businesses across Europe. We are delighted to be collaborating with an increasing number of commercial partners across Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg as we build our business footprint across this key region.

^*There has been no legal continuation between the former Mitsui & Co. and the current Mitsui & Co. which was established after the disbandment of the former Mitsui & Co. in 1947.
