Ceremony held to mark completion of Evolue™ plant in Singapore

Apr. 11, 2017

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Prime Polymer Co., Ltd. (Mitsui Chemicals 65%, Idemitsu Kosan 35%) established joint venture company Prime Evolue Singapore Pte. Ltd. (EVLS) in Singapore in October 2012. Although operations launched in August 2016, the completion ceremony was held on April 10, 2017.

Approximately 300 people attended the ceremony, including Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry (Trade), Lim Hng Kiang, current Ambassador of Japan to Singapore Kenji Shinoda, and customers and related officials, who joined in wishing the success of the business. A traditional sake cast breaking ceremony was also carried out by government officials and representatives from each project partner including Mitsui.

“The opening of the EVOLUE plant in Singapore, its only one outside of Japan, reflects our attractiveness as a high value-added manufacturing location,” said Mr Damian Chan, Executive Director, Energy & Chemicals, Singapore Economic Development Board. “EVOLUE’s plant is exemplary of how companies can leverage Singapore as a base to tap into opportunities brought about by the rising Asian middle class. We are committed to growing the Chemicals industry, and will continue supporting companies to identify avenues to grow their business and create good job opportunities for Singaporeans.”

EVLS manufactures and sells metallocene polymer Evolue™, a high-performance polyethylene sealant used for powder and liquid packing which demonstrates exceptional strength, an airtight heat seal, low odor, and an excellent finish.

Mitsui established EVLS in Singapore to be close to the growing Asia market, where a further increase in demand for high performance sealant material is expected. Going forward, this business will help contribute to the development of Singapore, as well as Asian counties and regions.
