MASAAKI FUJITA APPOINTED PRESIDENT & CEO OF MITSUI USA

New York, NY, March 03, 2009 - Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. (Mitsui USA) announced today that Masaaki Fujita has been appointed, as of April 1, its President & Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Yasunori Yokote, who is returning to Japan. As Mr. Fujita assumes his role in New York, he will concurrently serve as an Senior Executive Managing Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the Americas Business Unit of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Mitsui USA's parent company in Tokyo.

Mr. Fujita is a graduate of the Faculty of Commerce & Management of Hitotsubashi University. He joined Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in 1972 and has since built his career mainly in the Company's sugar and fermented products business area, which involves global trade and investment activities. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Fujita was Mitsui & Co.'s Executive Managing Officer and the Chief Operating Officer of its Foods & Retail Business Unit.

Previously, Mr. Fujita served in overseas posts three times in: New York (1975-80) with Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.); London (1987-93) with Mitsui & Co.'s London Branch; and Bangkok (1997-2000) as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Mitsui & Co. (Thailand) Ltd. and of Mitsiam International Ltd., a full-service international trading and investment company.

Upon his return to New York in April 2009, Mr. Fujita will assume various external roles at a handful of civic organizations including: The Nippon Club, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York, Japan Society, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Museum for African Art, the New York Philharmonic, International House, and Weissman Center of Baruch College of The City University of New York, among others.

During his two-year tenure, outgoing Mitsui USA President & CEO Mr. Yasunori Yokote successfully led Mitsui USA's business and non-business activities under his CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) management based on the Yoi-Shigoto (good work) philosophy. Upon returning to Tokyo, he will serve as Counselor of Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

To mark the occasion of a presidential change-over, Mitsui USA will make contributions to select organizations serving the community, in lieu of holding a traditional public reception.
