Mitsui & Co. Ltd., through Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc., received an award for a Water Supply Project (Total Project Amount: 2,854 million Mex. Peso, Period: 20 years) and a Wastewater Treatment Project (Total Project Amount: 374 Mil Mex. Peso, Period: 20 years) in Queretaro State, Mexico, from the State Water Commission of Queretaro.

Queretaro State is suffering from water supply shortage due to its location which is at high altitude in the middle of Mexico and due to a growing water demand by its increasing population as a satellite city of Mexico City. Under these circumstances, the expansion and modernization of its water supply system and wastewater treatment system need to be completed as soon as possible.

The proposed projects aim to provide approximately 50 million cubic meters per year, which is 75% of the current supply volume in Queretaro State and cover the shortfall of the current capacity of wastewater treatment system. By taking up these projects, Mitsui wishes to contribute to the establishment of vital social infrastructure in this region.

Recently, the problems related to water supply and wastewater treatment are getting more serious around the world. Keeping and obtaining safe and enough water are indispensable to people’s welfare and continuous economic growth. Mitsui is set to contribute in the building of sound water infrastructures as part of its core business fields and plans to continue pursuing this business proactively. Mitsui strongly believes that it can play a significant role in this business area through the optimum use of private resources and cutting-edge technologies.
