Logistics Technology

Mitsui USA's Logistics Technology unit (LT) offers comprehensive logistics services based on its expertise, world-wide network, and advanced IT infrastructure. The LT Unit offers custom-design logistics projects for its customers. With its strength centered mostly in Asia, it can handle various types of logistics for clients, from chartering a vessel of bulk steel or project cargoes to distributing electronic parts to domestic users. It also specializes in the logistics of project cargoes, such as turbines and transformers for power plants; and has been a major provider of logistics for inland transportation of project cargoes manufactured by major Japanese companies.

Mitsui USA has developed an advanced internet-based Supply Chain Management (SCM) system, Mitsui Logistics Exchange-Fulfillment (MLX-F), which enables Mitsui USA greater control over product and information flow and increases visibility of shipments and inventory throughout the supply chain. With it, clients can also plan/execute sales and purchase orders, and control/monitor transportation and inventory, using one, easily accessed site.

With its broad experience in logistics activities, and its capabilities of procurement and risk management, including appropriate insurance arrangements and investments as a trader, Mitsui USA provides unique and comprehensive logistics services for its customers. For example, the LT unit in conjunction with the Mitsui Trade Service Center (TSC), as a third party service provider, can manage procurement and logistics arrangements; study joint investments in logistics facilities; and combine sophisticated IT solutions with its own physical logistics capabilities.

Mitsui USA has more than 50 world-wide, logistics subsidiaries including 6 warehousing companies in China and its U.S. subsidiary owns 800,000 square feet of transloading facilities in Long Beach, CA, which was until recently, one of the largest facilities on the west coast. Affiliates that support Mitsui USA's logistics capabilities include Tri-Net Logistics Management (USA) Inc. for ocean and air transportation arrangements, forwarding, warehousing and distribution, project cargo transportation, investment, and SCM; Mitrix, Inc. for IT services for SCM; and Tri-Net Logistica Brazil Ltda. for logistics arrangements in Brazil including bonded warehousing.
