Oct. 31, 2017

In October 2017, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. formed an agreement with Komeri Co., Ltd. to support Komeri's development of a home center business in Thailand.

Komeri has the largest home center store network in Japan, and is growing its operations under a business model that focuses on expanding in suburban areas. The company is now preparing to establish an operating company to pursue home center business in Thailand, a nation with a similar agricultural structure to Japan.

Mitsui has been working to strengthen its relationship with Komeri, supplying primarily fertilizer and other agricultural products within Japan. With this new agreement, Mitsui will draw on its experience in the Thailand market to help Komeri develop its business.

Thailand is one of Asia's most significant and high potential agricultural countries, with more than 4.5 million agricultural households (3.1x Japan) and a cultivated area of 16.8 million ha (4.0x Japan)

Mitsui aims to support the development of Komeri's new retail distribution system in Thailand, while contributing to increased productivity and competitiveness of the nation's agricultural industry.
