Sri Lankan Minister Awarded Mitsui Norin Certificate Of Appreciation For Its Long-Standing Commitment To Ceylon Tea

Mitsui & Co.'s affiliate Mitsui Norin Co., Ltd., leader of Japan's black tea industry, has been awarded Certificate of Appreciation from Hon. Navin Dissanyake, Minister of Plantation Industries of Sri Lanka on August 10, 2017, for its long-standing commitment to Sri Lankan black tea over 7 decades.

Today Sri Lanka is the 2nd largest black tea exporting country in the world next to Kenya, since its launch of initial black tea plantation in 1867, and "Ceylon Tea" has established its recognition as quality tea. In 2016, approx. 290,000 MT of black tea was produced in Sri Lanka, out of which 8,000 MT was imported to Japan.

Mitsui Norin has been supplying qualified black tea through its Certified Plantation System with rigor pesticide and traceability standard. Mitsui Norin handles more than 40% of total import of Sri Lankan black tea to Japan today.

We are committed to promote Sri Lankan black tea and to contribute development of Sri Lankan black tea industry.
