The 41st Japan/New Zealand Business Council joint meeting was held in Christchurch, New Zealand from November 24-26. Yasushi Takahashi, CEO of Mitsui & Co. (Australia), was one of around 120 participating business executives and other delegates from both Japan and New Zealand, who included Tim Groser, the New Zealand Minister of Trade, the New Zealand ambassador to Japan, and the Japan ambassador to New Zealand among others.
The event program covered eight industries and themes, with participants demonstrating a strong willingness to strengthen relationships between the nations. The overall theme of the meeting was Primary Industry and Food. CEO Takahashi gave a speech in which he cited Mitsui & Co.'s many years of business involvement with New Zealand in diverse areas, including capital participation since 2007 in dairy processing company Synlait Milk. Dairy foods and other agricultural products are New Zealand's major exported goods, and CEO Takahashi earned the support of his audience when he expressed Mitsui & Co.'s intention to contribute further to development in New Zealand.
The meeting was a clear success for Mitsui & Co., with representatives from multiple New Zealand companies expanding their knowledge of Mitsui and expressing an interest in Mitsui's activities. Mitsui & Co. will continue to participate in this kind of event, building relationships with local partners in New Zealand and actively contributing to the country's economic development.
