Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui", Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Tatsuo Yasunaga) will establish, in April 2016, Mitsui & Co. Asset Management Holdings Ltd. ("MAH") as a strategic holding company for conducting real estate asset management business in Japan.

Mitsui has expanded its real estate fund management business through its subsidiaries Mitsui & Co., Logistics Partners Ltd. ("MLP", Head Office: Tokyo,) and Mitsui & Co., Realty Management Ltd. ("MBRM", Head Office: Tokyo). MAH will be positioned as the core strategic company for Mitsui's real estate management business in Japan. Mitsui plans to concentrate human resources and expertise, funds, and information into this new company, and transfer part of strategic planning functions in this business area, which has hitherto been handled by Mitsui itself. These changes will create a structure that will enable business development with greater agility. MLP and MBRM will become affiliates of MAH, which will become the hub of a new business promotion structure. MAH will also work to expand the business further by establishing new real estate fund management companies, and by planning, formulating, and implementing M&A projects.

Mitsui, as the sponsor for MAH and its affiliated real estate fund management companies, will continuously support growth of their business operations through the provision of both human resources and funding. Following the establishment of MAH, Mitsui aims to diversify real estate assets under its management and to implement investment totaling ¥200-300 billion by 2020.

Demand from both institutional and individual investors has remained consistently strong in the Japanese real estate asset management market. Through these measures, Mitsui will maintain its focus on the real estate asset management business both in and outside Japan, and expand its business base to meet investor needs.
