Since the 1960's, Mitsui USA's Iron & Steel Products Division has been a leading value-chain provider specializing in the trading of steel products, streamlining the processes at each step of value chain, managing inventory, process coordination and focusing on further value creation through various steel related investment activities. The division maintains alliances with steel makers, steel processors, and major local customers in the U.S. and other countries.

The division is focusing on two core operations. One is Steel Technologies LLC (Steel Tech) which Mitsui USA acquired in June, 2007. Steel Tech is a leading steel processor operating more than 20 steel processing facilities in North America. Steel Tech processes flat-rolled steel and provides a wide range of value added services including slitting, pickling, cold strip processing and automotive blanking. Targeting a full range of steel consuming industries, the North American automotive manufacturers and their affiliated parts suppliers are major customers.

In April 2010, Mitsui USA established NuMit LLC (NuMit),a 50/50 joint venture with Nucor Corporation to own and operate a flat rolled processing network and other steel related projects throughout North America, and also to pursue international steel related investment opportunities. Mitsui USA contributed Steel Tech into NuMit and will use the proceeds from this venture for further investment expansion.

The other core focus for The Iron & Steel Products Division is the sales and distribution of energy related steel tubular products to the Americas. Champion s Pipe & Supply, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary, serves as the foundation for these efforts.

The Iron & Steel Products Division also maintains strategic investments in automotive parts suppliers Seymour Tubing , Inc. and PK U .S .A . , Inc., long products manufacturer Tamco, a service center, Acero Prime S. de R.L. de C.V. in Mexico and energy related products Argo Sales, Ltd. in Canada.
