Mineral Resources
Mitsui USA’s Energy & Mineral Resources Division specializes in raw materials for iron and steel making, coal, primary aluminum, secondary aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper cathode, and non-ferrous materials/products.
The division is a producer, supplier, coordinator of supply chain, and a solution provider relating to raw materials for iron and steel making, and coal. It coordinates the entire aluminum and copper supply chain including: investing in smelters and mines; distributing aluminum and copper to manufacturers which use the products as raw material; and giving services such as Just-in-Time(JIT) delivery using prices established by future market. The Division also has business relationships with non-ferrous materials/products consumers and manufacturers.
Business transactions include investments in steel scrap processing and export yard operations; supply of various steel raw materials for the steel and aerospace industry in the U.S.; export of coal to the Far East; and the coordination of non-ferrous materials/products demand and supply. The Division is also involved in the supply of aluminum and copper to consumers and hot briquetted iron (HBI) into the U.S. from Comsigua, Venezuela.
With investments made to assure supplies to customer, the Iron & Steel Raw Materials and Non-Ferrous Metal Division acts as a producer as well as a merchant. Its stable supply, due to its investment in up-stream operation (such as mines, and smelting/processing/stock yard operations) and by its provision of value added functions (Such as Supply Chain Management of SCM, which utilizes MLX-F) in non-ferrous materials/products sales and procurement, gives Mitsui USA its competitive edge throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Korea, Malaysia, China and Japan.
Energy
Mitsui USA's Energy & Mineral Resources Division specializes in global trading of petroleum products, including crude oil, heavy oil and petroleum coke, as well as importation of liquid natural gas (LNG), and E & P (Exploration & Production) activities in oil and gas.
By utilizing its knowledge of LNG, including terminaling (loading/discharging of LNG), the Division operates in the natural gas market, and also participates in upstream activities in oil and gas fields. It is engaged in the supply chain management (SCM) of petroleum coke from refineries to end users, including U.S. domestic transportation; transoceanic distribution of petroleum coke, crude oil, and petroleum products; coordination of the producers and customers for such products as petroleum coke, bunker, and lubricant; and business alliances with U.S. companies in the exploration of gas fields and investments in natural gas fields.
The Energy Division participates in a significant share of the world oil trading as well as using its valuable experience in investing in E & P and LNG projects around the world, primarily utilizing partnerships with major oil companies. With its transoceanic logistics capabilities, it conducts business in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Japan, China, Korea and Europe, participating in transactions that involve one million tons in petroleum coke transactions annually. With support from Westport Petroleum, Inc., a Mitsui USA subsidiary, the Division also trades about 400,000 barrels of petroleum products daily. |
