"Get Close to Japanese enterprise, Experience Japan"
Program to Invite Chinese University Students to Japan
The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, an organization of which Mitsui & Co. (China) Ltd. is a corporate member, offers a program which is aimed at promoting a better understanding of Japan among younger generations in China. Twice a year, a group of 30 Chinese university students are invited to take part in a 10-day study tour of Japan. In addition to visiting various companies and sightseeing spots, the program also offers the participants an overnight stay at the homes of the families of employees of corporate sponsors so that they can experience Japanese family life.
As a key corporate member of the organization, Mitsui & Co. (China) Ltd. extends its support to this initiative, and is involved in all related activities, including the local recruitment and selection of students who will participate in the program, and the planning of program activities. With the assistance of employee volunteers from the head office in Japan, we have successfully made homestay arrangements for program participants.
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Environment Fund
Low-Carbon and Energy Self-Sufficient Community Project for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Conservation in the Sichuan Giant Panda Nature Reserves in China
In July 2005, Mitsui launched the Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Environment Fund with the goal of realizing sustainable social development by assisting and promoting, through grants, a wide range of activities and research projects undertaken by various NPOs and universities to aim at contributing to solving environmental problems. The Fund is operated with funding provided by Mitsui; however, it is designed so that donations are also accepted from company officers and employees, as well as retirees and former employees. The Fund supports activities being carried out for the preservation of the ecosystem in the Giant Panda Nature Reserves in Liangshan located in the Province of Sichuan. Through these activities, 110 micro hydro-electric generators (3 kW to 5.5 kW) have been installed in the region to supply electricity to 390 households, which in turn helps minimize deforestation, protect endangered animals and plants, and conserve biodiversity.
- Period covered by the grant: April 2010 to September 2013
- Grant amount: 30,811,200 yen
China-Japan Coming-of-Age Ceremony
Mitsui was recently a sponsor to the China-Japan Coming-of-Age Ceremony, which was organized by the Beijing Japanese Students Association in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Beijing.
This was the third time that the ceremony has been held, which attracted nearly 200 Chinese and Japanese people who have reached the age of majority over the past year. The event went a long way toward helping those Japanese and Chinese students in attendance interact with each other and deepen their mutual understanding, and proved to be a valuable aid for further promoting friendly relations between Japan and China.
