Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. Announces the Integration of
Mi-Tech Steel, Inc. and Mitsui Auto Steel Canada Inc.
New York, December 5, 2006 - Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. (“Mitsui USA”) announced today that Mi-Tech Steel, Inc. will acquire 100% of the stock in Mitsui Auto Steel Canada Inc. in Cambridge, Ontario. It is Mitsui USA’s intention to provide better services to customers in the U.S. and Canada through this organizational integration, and to expand business, especially in the automotive steel processing and just-in-time logistics operations.
Mi-Tech Steel, Inc. is a 50/50 joint venture between a subsidiary of Mitsui USA of New York and Steel Technologies Inc. of Louisville, Kentucky. Established in 1987, Mi-Tech Steel, Inc. has rapidly grown by providing steel processing and logistics services to mainly Japanese automotive OEMs and parts manufacturers in the U.S. It currently operates five steel processing facilities in Tennessee, Indiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Mitsui Auto Steel Canada Inc. (“MASCI”), established in 1996, is a steel service center in which Mitsui & Co., Ltd. directly and indirectly owns a 100% equity interest. Headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario, MASCI provides warehousing, inspection, and just-in-time delivery services primarily to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. Following the completion of the integration with Mi-Tech Steel, Inc., the company plans to construct the second facility in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada near the construction site for Toyota’s 7th North American plant. The new facility is expected to be operational in mid-2008.
