The Mitsui USA Foundation, established in 1987 in New York, is Mitsui USA’s charitable arm for active, good corporate citizenship, running programs in U.S. communities where the Company does business. Historically, the Foundation placed an emphasis on higher education and employee-related efforts, and has recently enhanced its giving to include the disabled community. Currently, it supports initiatives in the areas of Education, Community Welfare / Disabled Individuals Welfare, Arts & Culture, and Employee Matching & Volunteerism , with a focus on Mitsui USA named projects. Annually, the Foundation supports about 50 projects across the U.S., with 50% of the budget targeted for education, most in support of its named programs, primarily for: college level scholarships, study abroad, forums, and fellowships in the area of international affairs; and high school level international exchanges to Japan.
